ACHSI Evaluation Quality and Improvement Programme at University Hospital KDU
University Hospital General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (UHKDU) – “Sri Lanka’s first state hospital to be Recognized by Australian Council of Healthcare Standards International” (ACHSI) and most prominently the “Only Sri Lankan” hospital to be accredited under the latest edition of the ACHSI Evaluation and Quality and Improvement Programme (Equip 7)
University Hospital General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (UHKDU) is a purposely built Teaching Hospital, to the Medical Faculty at Kotelawala Defence University. UHKDU successfully faced the organization wide assessment (OWA) for the accreditation by Australian Council of Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI) during 27th March 2023 to 30th March 2023. Affirming its commitment to upholding healthcare standards and patient safety, UHKDU successfully completed the recognition level accreditation by the Australian Council of Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI) marking a remarkable milestone in the state health sector. This prestigious standard, one of the top healthcare accreditation bodies in the world, has been bestowed on the hospital for another three years – until end 2026.
UHKDU becomes the first state hospital in Sri Lanka to be recognized by ACHSI, a globally-recognized organization driven with an aim to ensure quality and safety standards in patient care awarded the accreditation based on results of its robust Evaluation and Quality Improvement Programme and the only hospital to be accredited under the 7th edition of the ACHSI Evaluation and Quality and Improvement programme (EQuIP 7), showcasing its adherence to processes and controls, accredited with the latest international hospital standards.
UHKDU accreditation reflects the hospital’s vision as ‘to be the leading patient-centric University Hospital in Southeast Asia to promote the wellbeing of patients and society through professionalism and innovation’. ACHSI accreditation achievement position the UHKDU to set an example to other public hospitals and teaching hospitals that nothing is impossible.
