Oath-taking Ceremony of Intake 40 BSc Nursing Undergraduates, Department of Nursing & Midwifery-FAHS
The Oath-taking Ceremony of the Intake 40 B.Sc. Nursing undergraduates of the Department of Nursing & Midwifery, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences was held on the 13th March 2024 at the Auditorium, UH-KDU. This ceremony was dignified by esteemed guests, including representatives from the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka Nursing Council, teaching hospitals, KDU, UHKDU, and other Universities.
Professor Thamara Amarasekara, a distinguished figure in Nursing & Midwifery from the Department of Nursing & Midwifery, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor.
Surgeon (Capt.) Ranga Perera, the Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, extended a warm welcome to all attendees. On this occasion, ninety-four nursing undergraduates of Intake 40 received their caps and lamps, symbolizing their commitment to the noble profession of nursing and readiness to serve those in need.
As the Chief Guest, Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara, VSV, USP, psc, MMaritimePol, BSc (DS), Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, congratulated the students and imparted words of encouragement and wisdom to the aspiring nurses.
He emphasized the significance of maximising human qualities in the forthcoming journey as healthcare professionals.
In the ceremonial address, the Guest of Honour highlighted the significance of the oath ceremony and the weight of responsibility that comes with being a nursing professional. Dr. Kalpani Abhayasinghe, Head of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery, expressed gratitude on behalf of the department in her vote of thanks.
This event not only marked a milestone in the academic journey of these students but also served as an enduring reminder of the noble calling they have chosen to dedicate their lives to the service of others through the noble profession of nursing.
